What is a Root Canal?
A root canal is a treatment that can save a tooth that is damaged on the inside. When the pulp, which is the part of the tooth that contains the living tissues and cells, becomes infected or otherwise damaged, you need a root canal. During a root canal, your dentist will remove the damaged pulp, clean your tooth, and protect it by sealing it.
Advantages of Root Canals
Save Your Tooth | Root canal therapy can save your damaged tooth. Your tooth will still be able to perform all of its normal tasks even after the pulp has been removed.
Freedom from Discomfort | If you have a damaged pulp, you are aware of the toothaches that it can cause. When you get a root canal, you will no longer have to suffer from that constant, painful toothache.
Nothing to Worry About | Root canals are not as scary as you might think. Many patients say that getting a root canal feels the same as getting a filling or any other dental procedure done. We use local anesthesia so that you will be comfortable throughout the process.
What to Expect During a Root Canal
Examination | Dr. Parke or Dr. Rogers will examine your teeth and take an X-ray to make sure a root canal is the right course of action.
Local Anesthesia | Your dentist will provide you with local anesthesia so that you can be comfortable and relaxed throughout the procedure.
Removal of the Pulp | Your dentist will prepare your tooth so that the damaged pulp can be removed.
Cleaning and Sealing | After the pulp has been removed, the inside of your tooth will be cleaned out and filled with a rubbery material. It will then be sealed off with cement.
